The AFAC Menu

Our goal is to have the following items every week for our families:

• ½ gallon of milk (choice of 1% or 2%)
• One dozen eggs
• Bread (unlimited amount)
• 1 pound of fresh meat (hotdogs and/or chicken)
• Fresh produce
• A bag of canned/dry goods (usually 5 items)
• Baked goods
• Selections from the Extra Choice Shelves

Client surveys indicate that clients want fresh produce (vegetables and fruits). AFAC's Plot Against Hunger project actively seeks produce donations from local gleaning organizations and produce wholesalers year-round. During the summer months, area farmers markets and gardeners in the community and local farmers are donate large amounts of fresh and local fruits and vegetables. Other items, such as cereal, peanut butter, and pasta, are requested in food drives and distributed as we get it.

Current Menu Items

Meats, milk and eggs are purchased from wholesalers to assure us that we are getting the best price for these fresh items. All bread and baked goods are donated from grocery stores and local bakeries. Produce donations are supplemented by purchases from wholesalers as the budget allows. Choice items and canned goods are generally donated, but donations may be supplemented by very low cost purchases.

Donated Food

Food drives are a very important source of food donations to AFAC. They provide us with high quality food at no cost. When promoting a food drive, you may want to list specific needed items (found on our current needs page). Keeping the list short makes it easier for food donors to give us exactly what we need as well as keeping it easy for them to remember.
